By World War II rolled around women being given more and more opportunities to serve and help in the wars. World War I they would have stayed home, looked after the farm or home, the children and the chores, but thats with their own personal life. Mainly women were nurses or volunteers, they also worked in munitions factories and other factories because labor shortages increased as the men went to war. As soon as the war ended most went back to their role as a wife and homemaker. What was different with world war II was that 45 000 women signed up for military service; not everyone though thought this was "normal" it was too big of a change for something. Obviously nothing was done about it, just the change that women were not in their regular roles was strange for some people to comprehend.
