The depression took place in October 1929 people lost money in a stock market tumble on the Winnipeg Grain Exchange. Stock prices were rising, people could sell their stocks, pay off their debts, and still make a profit; when stock prices began to fall, they could not cover their debts by selling off stocks. One important factor of the depression was deflation a worldwide drop in the prices of a wide range of goods as a result of falling demand and overproduction.
