In 1924 Hitler was sentenced to 5 years in jail for an attempted coup known as the “Beer Hall Putsch.” To quote Hitler’s wikipedia page, because I’m too lazy to reword and type this, “Hitler and the SA stormed a public meeting headed by Kahr in the Bürgerbräukeller, a large beer hall in Munich. He declared that he had set up a new government with Ludendorff and demanded, at gunpoint, the support of Kahr and the local military establishment for the destruction of the Berlin government.” After he wrote his book Mein Kampf and was released, he was elected chancellor. hmm? If I was a german back then I would not vote for a man who had been in jail. A coup is never really used for a new democratic government, usually the leader of it wants absolute power. So I would not elect a man who tried to take over the government, especially at gunpoint. He was elected before the deppresion hit so he must have had other promises that helped him get elected. I can understand why the German citizens would have elected him in their desperation again during the deppresion. But he was in jail for five years, kinda confusing.
