During the depression Mackenzie King was asked by desperate provincial governments to help them with the unemployment crisis. He was even more reluctant to give money to the Conservative governments, he was quoted as saying "I would not give a single cent to any Tory Government." It is clear that Mackenzie King could no longer represent his people in concern of their best interests, but why was he allowed to run the country until the next election? Fortunately he was defeated by the Conservatives
