During the Depression many people went to movies to escape their worries and fears of reality. The escape into someone else’s head for a while was a relief. But what I don't understand is how people had time and money to go to so many movies? If times were so hard and money so scarce how could people afford movies? Also the movies that were being made...why was that money not being used to help that people that were in such bad times? Maybe we had our priorities a little out of whack. Wouldn't it make sense to save the money used to make movie to help the people so that their reality would be as fearful?

Movies provided an escape from reality.
