When I was Christmas shopping this weekend, I went to buy my sisters some nice chocolate. I noticed the store I bought from was called Laura Secord. I wondered to myself how in the world does Laura Secord have anything to do with chocolate. After reading into their website I have learnt that she, in fact, has nothing to do with chocolate. The name was adopted after this Canadian heroine because she was an icon of courage, devotion and loyalty. In the history section of their website it speaks of the bravery, courage and strength of her amazing story. On another note, I learnt something new about Laura Secord that I found very interesting. He husband James was a militia sergeant in the army. When he went mission after a battle, Laura searched among the dead and wounded left on the battlefield and found him bleeding from gunshot wounds. Laura helped James home and dressed his wounds and cared for him. That would have been traumatic for her to have seen all of that. I do understand that the men had witnessed this battle first hand, but it was still very courageous of her to do. Anyhow, Laura Secord is really awesome. But it doesn’t make sense that a chocolate store is named after her…
