Wheat prices dropped an extreme amount on the prairies 1932...going down from $1.63 per bushel to $0.35 per bushel. The land had been over farmed and this made the tops soil erode easily. Then drought came, it came every year, year after year. The topsoil on the land turned into dust and blew away. The intense winds blew the dust everywhere, under door and windows and it was too difficult for things to grow in these times. Crops were destroyed by grasshoppers and cutworms. IT was very difficult for farmers to farm in this time. Most reached an income of $1614 in the year 1928 but as the years went by and the farming environments got worse by 1933 they were only receiving $66. Everyone was isolated in this time on the prairies as their phones were taken; most were living off potatoes and milk. Times were very tough! As times went on what changed? How were people able to farm threw droughts is it because of machinery change? Or did the droughts slow down?
