Pilots in the war were the hot stuff and they got the girls apparently. However their average life span in the war was 3 weeks. We can laugh about how they were studs and got the girls but I think that we often forget about the lives that were lost in the war. All the sweethearts that were left behind, all the wives and families that were left not knowing what happened to theirs sons. I know that Vimy Ridge was a great achievement for Canadians. But do we concentrate more on the men that were killed to save Canada or do we concentrate on the fact that we were just smarter? Often when studying war I find my self losing all compassion for the soldiers in the war. I forget that they died to give me a safe place to live. I personally think that there should be more emphasis on the sacrifices-it is important right?

With every passing year the sacrifice of these people grows just a little fainter in our collective memory... This is lamentable but reality nonetheless.
You can personally keep their memory alive by reading about them, talking to existing veterans, teaching your own children to respect what they did for the country, etc. Other than that I'm not sure what else you can do...
