In building the railroad many people were injured, and numerous even died. In the BC area it was very dangerous terrain. So many canadians were dying, so they got chinese to work on the railroad. They worked for low pay and under very poor conditions. They couldn't quit working for the railroad because they needed to support their familes. Did they have any other choices for jobs that would help them support their families? Currently people are unemployed in Canada, is that because there arent enough open jobs, or can they not get a job? Driving through saskatoon you see numerous places with signs saying they are hiring. I understand that someone cant make a great living by just working at mcdonalds, but in our times how do people become homeless and without a job when there are so many opportunities.
