Louis Riel was a treasonous rebel and the murderer of Thomas Scott ; he was a defender of a French Catholic minority . he thought the English majority might be able to control the federal government . What was the legacy of Louis Riel ? was kind of confuse :-/

Legacy of Riel:
1). Because of his efforts in leading the Red River Rebellion the province of Manitoba was created. Metis land rights were guaranteed. 2). He also led the Northwest Rebellion (in Saskatchewan this time). This rebellion was crushed. Riel was hanged. Riel is important because he was a man who fought for the rights of minorities (Metis and First Nations).
