In previous sections this year I had already thought that we(Canadians) were lucky that we were not conquered by the Americans. After the mass migration and Britain helping out the southern part of America in the American Civil War I was astounded that American didn't declare war on our weaker country. Are there any specific reasons why the Americans didn't attack us?

I mentioned in class that the Americans were appeased by the British agreeing to remove their army entirely from North America. The Americans felt it was just a matter of time before Canada would be pulled into the American orbit. First economic domination would come and then that'd be followed by political domination.
There was a confidence in the Americans that they wouldn't even have to march on us in order to bring us in. Moreover, we were still under the protection of Great Britain. I presume that this fact was in the mind of the Americans.
