I am a little surprised that there weren’t more men like Tecumseh. Tecumseh had ill feelings towards the Americans because they attacked his family and wanted his land. The thing that makes Tecumseh special is he did something about it. Tecumseh rallied Indians against Americans in what was called the Indian Confederation. The Indian Confederation allied with the English to fight against the Americans and limit their expansion. I would think that throughout history we would hear about more of these types of men. Men who take on leadership rolls to stand up for themselves and the people around them seemed to be not often heard of. That is what made Tecumseh such an icon in Canadian history.

Men (or people in general) that possess the qualities of Tecumseh are rare. I think that's why they stick out in history. If you're interested, you could Google "great men of history theory" and read some of the hits you get. The assumption behind the "great men" theory is that, well, great men push history forward and encourage change and historical evolution, etc.
