In 1793 Governor Simcoe created the Slave Act witch abolished all slavery in Canada. In doing this slaves could no longer be bought or sold. The elected assembly was angered by the new law, so they tried to make a new law witch enabled people to purchase slaves again. What I didnt get is if Simcoe can create the law to expell slavery why would the elected assembly try to counter it?

The assembly was filled with slave owners that's why. What Simcoe ended up doing was establishing a law that grand-fathered slavery; that is, people who currently owned slaves could continue to own them however you could not purchase any new ones.
