As I read through the readings I noticed alot of battles were ended by the oncoming winters. Phips attack attempted attack on Quebec City was unsuccesful because they were rushing and giving a last ditch effort to take the city before winter set in and locked their ships in ice. Another example is Amherst who was attacking Fort Louisbourg. They were slowly gaining the upperhand when Wolfe managed to land his ship on the unprotected island of Anse de la Cormorandiere. But again they ran out of time and winter was upon them and they were forced to leave. Also, on the other hand, winter also allowed leaders such as De Troyes and d'Iberville to attack succesfully based on the element of surprise because the enemy never expected any attacks in the harsh weather. It makes me wonder how much different our country could have been today if some armies werent forced out, and if the other side won the battle. Just an element as simple as the environment can have such a big effect on the development of a nation!
