The thing that confused me the most this section was the [shadow=green,left,300]Treaty of Ryswick.[/shadow] On September 30th, 1697, when the Treaty of Ryswick was signed all the land was returned to its origanal owner. That is what confused me, for what reason would the Europeans and the North Americans just give back the land they put blood and tears into to get?
Furthermore I realize that it did indeed stop the war between the two groups, but with all the territories back with there original owners it would only inspire another war. Thus just giving the Europeans and the North Americans a chance to recover a little bit before the next fight for land.

You need to understand that treaties were never intended to end war forever. Treaties simply brought the current conflict to an end. It was always understood that some future and unknown tension would lead to renewed hostilities.
