While reading about King Williams War, I came across the very disturbing Massacre of Lachine. Was there a reason to kill an entire settlement? From the reading I gained that there wasn’t a reason behind their attack. It said that the Iroquois ritualistically tortured the survivors. Even though their culture and beliefs are different from mine, it does not justify killing in brutal ways. See if 1000 humans can do that to innocent people. Then every other human on earth is capable of torture and killing. The difference is that we have a choice. To torture or to not to torture? I wish that everyone would make the not to torture choice. In 74 years there were 4 wars over the same thing. King William’s war was completely pointless because the Treaty of Ryswick countered the entire war. Humans killing humans is just wrong.

You were right to point out that tortue had some ritualistic importance to the Iroquois (not shared by yourself of course). This doesn't justify tortue but knowledge of Mohawk belief systems helps us understand their actions. You said "every human on earth is capable of tortue and killing": you're correct there. Canadian soldiers tortured and killed a young Somali man when we were in Somalia trying to help. See link about Canada's role here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Somalia_AffairAmericans have tortued Iraqis and Afghanis during the current wars in those two countries. See this link for further info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Ghraib_torture_and_prisoner_abuseTorture will always be practiced--by both so-called civilized peoples and barbarians. Though I'd agree with you that killing/torturing people is wrong, the fact remains it will still be used for whatever reason. This makes me think people in general just aren't particularly bright as a group. For this reason I've always tried to remain independent-minded and avoiding the tendencies towards group-think that leads to good people doing horrible things. "Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.”--Voltaire
